When the Saints
When the Saints documents one young man’s mission end sexual exploitation in the African nation of Malawi, a journey that begins in his own heart. The program not only calls us to care about justice for girls trafficked in rural Africa, but also to examine the ways that lust, personal impurity, pornography, and distorted views about romantic friendships serve to feed the problem. The film is a thought-provoking and powerful tool to rally the saints with a call to greater purity.
Exploring Hope for Better Times
In a major segment of the film, a miner for hope introduces thirty visionaries who are building hope and who have won In Harmony with Hope Awards for their social entrepreneurship efforts. This scene transitions with a nod to Cocteau’s La Beau et la Bete as the light (of hope) is passed from one person to another, in the form of a candelabra, as another miner for hope introduces the efforts that went into launching Stanford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality. Scenes from the Concert for Hope film are included, ending with a moment taken from the Stanford 10th Anniversary event Stanford State of the Union. And then we taste hope as an oyster. What? Yes!
Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one lay caring ministry involving: trained Stephen Leaders; lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) who are taught by the Stephen leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times; and care receivers who receive care from a Stephen Minister and are people going through a difficult time in life, whether it be grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis.
The minister, lay Stephen Ministry Leaders and lay Stephen Ministers from Humber Valley United Church in Toronto, Canada share what it is like for them to "walk together" with their care receivers.
